About mirror command

Blenders mirror is very different from the same command in 3d max where the new half (mirror) very conveniently latches onto the edited half and is completely absent of so many things and specs which will have to be taken care of in blender.

Its like we draw one half of the car and the other half simply latches on to the face/vertices. (Though i dont remember much of 3d max now). Is there any convenient way of handling mirror command ? i will need blender for modelling building strcutures interiors and most importantly furniture (non perpendicular).

Also i would like to know if any guidance can be provided on this forum to help me build from a reference image which may or may not be a part of this course?

I would say, just follow the course, and do all the challenges. Do your own small project, based on the knowledge you have. Practice a lot.

Questing about mirror modifiers is understandable, but if I read your question carefully, I think you need to learn the basics first, as explained in the course.
I lot of students, start with difficult projects when they learn the first basics of Blender. Without knowing the full set of Blender basics.
The mirror modifier has an option to merge the (middle ax) vertices, it’s called clipping.

You can import images as references as blue print to do modeling work.

Again a lot of Blender tools are explained in some of the GameDev courses, not sure which ones you are following … ?

As Fed Pete says. It is simply, tick the ‘clipping’ box, in the mirror modifier. For your ‘latching’ Blender calls it ‘clipping’ together. I am sure it is gone over in the lectures.

Watch the lectures, then watch them again following and doing the things described.
