You never mention Paint.NET, it is a great free program! Very fast, and simple yet has many of the features of Photoshop. Check it out. I’ve been using it for about a decade.
An up and newcomer to free painting software is Krita. This one does a few things even Photoshop and Gimp can’t do. Also free.
Here is mine in Paint.NET.

Upgrades to his chest panels? Lucas gets bored and has to play around with stuff. I didn’t know that but thanks. It certainly explains why there are so many variations.

Took me way more hours than I’m Happy with but I finally finished redoing the texture map in an outside image editor


As you can see, doing it this way has given all of the colors a greyed out appearance. I am not happy at all with this look!
