Through rotation and scaling I altered the values of two different displacement maps.
quite complicated to understand…

An empty is located in 3D space at a coordinate (x1,y1,z1).
You can animate this empty by putting it in a different place in time (x2,y2,z2).
Blender will animate this or you do it by hand.
The shift in (x,y,z) coordinates can be used to manipulate nodes in the material node setup.
