when I built it I built the shape as a bowl from bottom up (so the seem is at the top) as opposed to a sausage extruded from a rotation (my explanatory interpretation of what the instructor did)… that gave me a completely different shape… not one that minimizes triangles that much though… thank god for the edge split modifier… still it came out nice I think… i might have gotten carried away a little with the eyes and the nostrils… that might have increased the poly count a little…

This looks great. How did you do the mouth?
I used the Boolean modifier with a cube that I flattened. the slight curve on the inside of the mouth i got by creating a few edge loops around the cube and then bending/moving some of the pieces down. so it appeared bent… a torus might have been easier to start with but then I think it would have been more difficult to flatten it to fit what I wanted.

Ah nice, that’s definitely a good way to do it. Totally forgot about the Boolean modifier when making the mouth on mine. Would’ve made it a lot easier for sure.
