the 3d cursor Surface project tixk box not showing up…
Te way it does in the Udemy tutorial
is this an update error? where can I find this button?

User Preferences has been moved to the Blender menu
I was having the same issue. Its in the right menu pane which can be access with the N key and its under the tool tab.
