3D Course Update (Unity 6) while on old course (Unity 2020)

Hey,

I started the 3D Unity course in Udemy some time ago, and I’m now on my way to finishing the Argon Assault section. Today, however, I’ve seen that new content has been uploaded, and using a much newer release of Unity.

My question is, then, what would be the recommended path to take moving forward. I really want to change versions and be updated with the new content, but I also realised that the last project (Galaxy Strike) is a similar version to the one I am finishing (Argon Assault), and I don’t know if I want to change the whole project and do it all over again.

My goal in the end is to move on to making my own games with a solid foundation in Unity. Would appreciate any opinions on what would be best to do; whether I should finish the old course or start anew with Unity 6 from Royal Rush (which seems a fresh and interesting project). I feel like there might be new and more effective ways of working with Unity in this updated course.

Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

Hi and welcome to the community.
I’ve just flicked through the new sections and the last section (Galaxy Strike) does indeed look similar to Argon Assault. You could probably blast through the new early sections and get to a similar point.

So, honestly, you could pick and choose. A lot of the earlier stuff you could probably listen to and try things yourself and Sharp Shooter looks fun (I don’t know if there was anything similar in the previous course)

If I recall, Argon Assault is about 1/2 way so perhaps a new start if it has been a while might be worth it. It’ll also help refresh your memory as to how things work.

Hi Enzoporte,

Welcome to our community!

Since your “Argon Assault” game is almost finished, I would recommend to complete that section in the old course. The remastered projects for Unity 6 might be slightly modified, so it is not advisable to mix the sections of both courses even if the projects appear to be the same. Either watch “Galaxy Strike” from the beginning, or finish “Argon Assault”.

After you completed “Argon Assault”, I would suggest to continue either with “Realm Rush” in the old course, or “Royal Run” in the new course. They are two different games, though. If you want to make your own “Realm Rush” game, complete “Realm Rush” first, then continue with “Royal Run”, and then follow the “Sharp Shooter” tutorial.

“Galaxy Strike” is indeed the remastered version of “Argon Assault”. Whether you want to make this game again, is up to you. Maybe skim the content list and read the titles of the videos in the “Galaxy Strike” section to see if there is anything interesting that you “need” in “Argon Assault” such as “Displaying Dialogue Using Signals”.

Hi, thank you both very much for your answer.
I think I will start the new course once I finish Argon Assault, and probably just watch the Galaxy Strike section and taking some notes on new things.

Hope you have a nice day!
