2022 Collab: Week 2 “Desert” - CLOSED

Ohhh, this gecko is looking good!

I the lizard model looks great. The sand could probably use more broad waves, they seem to be really small when using the lizard as a scale reference and lastly, the color and “wetness” of the rocks though don’t really match the scene.

Ok… no more Fluid Simulation… it looks awful =(

Thank you for the feedback, I will address all those points

Looks like it’s boiling almost!

That is what i have so far, still have to tweak the materials and hopefully add a camel sculpt, but wasn’t feeling well yesterday, but much better today, isolating just in case.
My computer doesn’t like this and neither does my brain, previews and renders take a while so progress is slow and I agree with you @ZachDude much harder than I initially thought

Tatoine …

I like the challenge of doing new things though!
So despite the difficulty it’s still fun.

I like the close up of the fern, adds nice interest and contrast, even if possibly slightly out of place? It looks like a rainforest fern but hey what do I know?

Ah that makes sense :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Posting the final composition of my Desert. A few more things could have been done, but am pulling the stop button for now.

I have thought of a name for this render, “And the Life Goes On!”.

In addition I have tried my hands on Clay Model Rendering for the first time.

Please do share your inputs. Those help me improve upon my learnings & skills

I’m liking your final render. One question though, do those “rib cage” bones sticking up out of the sand in the foreground belong to a camel that didn’t make it on the last trip across the desert? Curious minds want to know.

@Miss_B Thank you for your appreciation, and I am humble of your liking.

The Rib Cage does not seem to fit in the attire of a Camel. In the desert of time some species go extinct and camels move on. Desert holds many secrets, and reveals a few at its choice.

May be of a predecessor of the present Camel, Who knows?

To be camel, past needs to be kept in the foreground coupled with present learnings.

This is the theme of this render! Keep an eye on the moving life.

Long time ago when that ship wrecked in the foreground!

Too straight and regular to be bones. But could be the structural ribs of a ship.

Good work on the camels correct walking. Perhaps they could be going a more interesting way than straight across the scene?

Right observations. That is why I wrote few things. It was taking long,

I am planning to add sometime later a few things

a) Some cactus spread around - of different types.
b) Adding randomness in rib cage bones. Curvature more as moving up.

Herd of camel normally walks in straight line. Here they are not pretty straight but I tried to keep them in natural pattern to the best of my observations and a couple of reference images.

I have a camel in progress, was part of my original idea for Christmas, lol, but no way I can get it useable, so my entry is ‘artistic’ ‘stylised’ ‘modern’.
Ok just a mat cap view. 2 mill verts scene does not do hairs quickly, will have to wait on a retoppo version.

Ship of the desert.

Ohhhh, of course! Since it’s a desert, I never thought of it originally being part of a sea or ocean. Now that you mention it, however, it does look more like the ribs of a ship. :grinning:
