I am 60. Not really a gamer but seeing the possibilities for gaming platforms outside of gaming.
only 42 here
35, so just over the half way hill by the looks of it
I was going to say Iām probably the youngest, but seeing the other ages up there that doesnāt apear to be the case.
I just turned 29 this 11th
Level 31. I sometimes feel like I started down this path too late (developing games - programming in C++ and 3D modelling) instead of figuring out that it was my passion in my 20s
Actually you arenāt the only one. Iāve been feeling that as I only recently (a few months back) landed on the idea of starting down this path. Of course, Iām sure this sounds stupid coming from someone who is two years younger than you, but itās been a worry Iāve had for a while but seeing many people on here and a certain news blog where someone is attempting to make a huge game with the lessons learnt from the unity course (and them all being older than me) makes me hopeful.
Not only that, but if you look at popular developers out there and how old they must be then I donāt feel like Iāve started this too late. Later than it shouldāve been, but Iām sure I can make up for that time now I have more experience than my younger and much more ignorant self.
27 Here. and I do agree with you guys.
IDK why I lost so many time since when I was 19 and had tried 3DSMax for the first time (BTW that time I felt kinda strange to the software approach from someone who already knew engineering software [Solidworks and Inventor], but If I had met someone like @ben or @Michael_Bridges to guide me, I might have taken another path in my career.
But no more tears! Time to recover the lost time and give our bests! \o/
Just wanna share some advice from 2 artists that I pretty appreciate they work.
I guess Iām top of the list at 70
This dinosaur has been giving his little grey cells programming exercises for the last 30 years, and is still going strong!
My advice:- Keeping your brain active and your body in shape will keep you āyoung at heartā
Level 33, Dual Class Artist/Programmer.
Are you an Artist or Designer? I think some people get confused so they fail to understand the importance of critique towards evolution and thought. Personally I consider myself both.
If a person of the school of āI am an artist I donāt take critiqueā they will inevitably fail as a commercial illustrator or designer, they become stagnant and every struggle to take their work to the next level is waved off with āThis is my styleā.
On the other hand
If a person is of the school of āI am a designer, I take constructive critique as a point for thought and improvementā their personal work can feature the most amazing artistic expression.
Iām truly more a Designer, struggling to make some art.
Indeed I share the same vision, Iāve seen some Industrial designers which Iāve worked with making some pretty things. Definitely been open minded is the key to success in creative market.
Level 42 here with extra interest DLC
and loving it!
For myself Iād personally say a bit of both. I will certainly take criticism, but I am often motivated by my artistic passion so unless itās constructive and I can take a step back, have a hard look at the situation Iād agree that changes would be needed as I always try to keep an open mind.
Sometimes, however, Iām as stubborn as a Dwarf and wonāt move from my original plan.
Yeah man, I also learned the hard way that I have to evaluate the validity of a critique before treating it seriously. Constructive criticism usually offers some reference or way to improve that you can refer to later.
I find that bad criticism consists of two kinds so I just filter those:
ā¦you lost me after ā2)ā
you mean 2) snotty know-it-all, but really donāt know what Iām talking about comments.
Just make sure you donāt decide to try to take it out on the person reviewing your work either by giving an aggressive response or, like a certain developer (who shall remain nameless, but has been so toxic to the developer and gamer community on Steam that they have recently had all their games taken off the service due to recent lawsuits) attempt to sue them for their opinion.
I.E. To no one in particular, itāll be pointless to sue me as I work two part-time jobs and have no money for you to take
pretty much, I hate these type of criticisms because they donāt tell me anything
Yeah that is true and important
