Weird shadows with eevee

As I turned on the shadows I noticed it’s casting some weird shadows which seemed to be in the air and not just on the chess board plane. Also, it’s changing with change in viewport angle. I tried tweaking the shadow settings but not getting rid of this effect.

I also noticed the plane is not reflective even with roughness set to .05. It is however super reflective when seen in look dev mode.

I am really confused with what’s going on.

Eevee probably?

What is the dimension of your board, in meters?

Sorry I didn’t mention it before, it is eevee.
The dimension of the board is 0.48m X 0.48m

Are the Eevee shadow properties also in the ranges of your board dimensions?
Like contact shadow 1 cm or mm. and not meters?

Did you apply scale to the board and pieces?

I tried reducing the contact shadow distance to 1cm. It reduced that effect but not completely. And since you’re mentioning scale here I scaled everything by 10 and it seems to be doing the trick. Thank you so much.

However, I’m still not getting the reflections on the plane.

If things improve by adjusting the scale. Then something in the light/shadow properties went wrong.
Default Blender stuff is based on real dimensions. So maybe somewhere you forgot to apply scale …?

Reflections, the same, you need to switch on reflections!
And set specular to 1. and roughness to 0. (mirror refelction)

I did forget to apply the scale. Reducing the scale back by 10 and applying it is working.
Thank you for the help.
