Vertex issue

I mirrored my Duck – after I applied the scale and rotation, of course-- with an empty for faster UV fixing. However, I discovered this:

After checking it out a bit more, I found out that there were some doubles. So I selected all and merged them, but there were still more. I tried changing the merge distance by putting in zeros, but no matter how many I put in, nothing happened. This is turning out to be super weird for me so, W.D.I.D.?

How did you select them, those expected double?

Quickest is to press a then the merge by distance

When using the mouse select option, then you need to switch on x-ray mode.
Otherwise you select only the top vertex, and not the ones below, because they are covered by the first one.

I mouse selected them first, then I pressed A and merged, after I found out that they were everywhere.

I figured it out: that it was the way I mirrored it. I mirrored it by deleting half of my duck.
