Understanding Tiles

I was wondering if someone could explain what “Tiles” is, does, and how it affects the render? Thanks

If you are asking about tiles that are under performance settings of Cycles


it’s basically the “patch” of an image that will be rendered by one compute thread. It mostly affect performance (smaller tiles are better for CPU rendering, larger tiles are better for GPU rendering; for GPU in my experience it saturates at around 256x256 or 512x512).
