Unable to extend the ramp till ground with correct angle

I have extruded the ramp of my pyramid upwards using the snap to vertex tool.

Now, I need to extend the ramp’s bottom edge to meet the ground. What is the best way to do the same to achieve the same angle?

What I have tried? I selected the ramp face and went to View > Align View > Align View To Active > Top so that my perspective changes to perpendicular of the face that I have selected.

Now when I try to grab the bottom edge of the ramp and extrude the same, it kind of gets extruded with the same angle BUT I cannot align it straight. this picture will tell you what I am trying to say: Not sure if there is a way to snap it to go straight

So, whats the best way to do this?

I don’t know if I did it the right way by I extended the bottom edge of the pyramid by 1 and then I snapped the ramp bit into the bottom edge. As I said, I don’t know if this is the best way but it appeared to work. Before I watched the video on snapping I tried this and was getting ramps that ended all over the place!

Thanks. There is no bottom edge as I see it… I could also snap the ramp’s bottom edge to an edge on the ground but I don’t have one. In other words, I don’t have any edge or vertex on the ground where I could snap my ramp’s bottom edge.

Have you watched video 28 about loop cutting yet? This is how I got the bottom edge. Basically you just get another small edge in the middle of the longer edge that you can extend by 1.

Yes I have seen that video… The thing is that the base step of my pyramid is not exactly 1.
i.e. imagine your pyramid’s base step to be of a greater height, in that case if you extend the bottom of your ramp to 1, it will not meet the ground… In my case that is exactly what is happening… In our tutorials we had a happy day scenario that by extending the ramp’s bottom edge to 1, we will get that ramp to touch the ground perfectly, in my case, the ground is a bit lower!
I hope I have tried to tell my problem in a better way now

Yes, this only worked for me as it scaled well. Here is someone who may have a better answer… @Parker_Peterson

@Alysia_Relf-Phypers Aw, shucks! Thanks for spreading a good word about me. @Atamjeet_Singh_Bawa, I’m a tad bit confused with what your problem is. You may have already fixed it, and if you have then I would love to know what your solution is (the problem-solving mindset that you need to have when 3D Modeling/Animating or Coding is unlike any other!). If you’ve already solved it, grats! If not, I’d love to help out with maybe some more pictures from different angles or even a video.

If you’d rather just save some time and wouldn’t mind me tweaking things, you could attach the .blend file here (or something of that sort) and I could take a look and see what I can do (afterwards, I would post a video with the solution or explain/guide you through the process of fixing it, of course).

Thanks,
Parker

Thanks for replying @Parker_Peterson. PFA the blend file. All I am struggling with is to extend the bottom of the ramp of my pyramid to the ground… It’s s simple thing yet I am not able to figure out. I tried many things but I couldn’t achieve the end result
Change the file extension from .jpeg to .blend as it wouldn’t allow me to attach a blend file.

@Atamjeet_Singh_Bawa Hmmm… Here are some suggestions:

  1. Make sure that you model is in the center of the workspace by using the shortcut SHIFT+S while hovering over the 3D Editor, setting the 3D Cursor to the Center, then use SHIFT+S (I believe that that’s the right shortcut) and then set the object to the 3D Cursor).

  2. Try snapping the bottom edge of the ramp to the edge that you want it to go to (you’ve probably already tried that one, but just in case)

  3. Select the bottom edge of the ramp and grab it (g) so that you can pull it closer to the desired position (or you can drag it using the widgets), and then try snapping or joining or even filling

  4. This might seem random, but make sure that the normals are right side out and that there are no double vertices

  5. If all else fails, then you can upload your model via Sketchfab (https://sketchfab.com/). There you can upload it via .blend, and then I can download it and take a look at it. No guarantees I would be able to solve it, but I can try my best!

Best of Luck,
Parker

I had same problem. Found it easier to delete the ramp, then build it again this time in the way he did in the video. 3D is one of those things that gets easier as you know better what you plan to do in the future - easier to build it right than fix!

What you are trying to do is scale the ramp along it’s local axis, but somehow I am not understanding how axes work in Blender yet – never could get it to scale completely in line (using 3D header) and if I could (using sequential repeat of shortcut key for desired axis), didn’t know how to snap it to the global grid (the relative grid issue doesn’t make sense to me yet – what’s the point in snapping to a relative grid? I guess it’s really a feature, not a bug, but just have to wrap my head around it!
