Unable to compile game

I’m using Windows 10, and I have VS updated to 16.5, but I’m still getting the same compiling error message:“BullCowGame could not be compiled. Try rebuilding from source manually”.
I have tried opening the game normally from the launcher itself (it actually shows up as a project), to opening up UE4’s launcher to then link to the uproject file in the game folder itself.

Could you try deleting the Binaries and Intermediate folder and trying again?

If so could you right click the Intermediate folder > Properties > Security and then show the permissions for the various groups?

It’s the same error. Here’s what I saw when I went to Intermediate > Properties > Security:Annotation 2020-03-29 151653

And the other groups’ permissions? Mainly interested in Admin

For all 3 (System, the second option and Administrators) they all have the same permissions. They are all on ‘Allow’ except for “Special permissions” which has a tick in neither “Allow” or “Deny”.

Guess it’s not that then. Try extracting it to the root of your User directory, it might be the long path name.
e.g.

C:\Users\erinc\BullCowGame-starter-kit\…

Could also try re-extracting the zip and/or redownloading it.

It worked! Thank you, Dan! I do get this error message though. Is it anything to worry about?

No, just save the level and it’ll create that file and you will no longer have that come up when you load the project.
