Hey Scott, I had a absolute blast playing this game. Keep up the good work!

Well done! Cute rocket, and the fuel dynamic works well!

I suck and got stuck on lvl 6. Good fun game!

Pretty nice extras you added. I jumped from my chair on my first death though. The sound was unexpectedly loud haha.

Hi everyone - Thanks for the feedback and i’ll definitely tweak the sounds (RIP headphone users).

I think it would be also be fun to explore some features that continue to give it more strategy and defined purpose:

  • Camera Following - to allow for much longer levels and vertical navigation.
  • Objectives - require the player to pick up specific items before the landing pad (exit) becomes available/activated.
  • Adding visible “wind gusts” or other environment factors that affect rocket movement and rotation, perhaps could be dodged
  • Different Rockets or Upgrades - to give player choice in adding more fuel capacity, stronger thrusts, increase/decrease

There’s a lot possibilities here… but i’m also curious as to what the next Argon Assault game will be like too.

Here is a video of my latest level design ideas:

  • Vertical Climb in level
  • Added Camera tracking (with min/max clamps on X and Y)
  • Added fuel boosts with particle effects (blue and yellow capsules)
  • Added a required “objective” (the green cube) to get landing pad to activate.
  • I added a scaling animation for when the landing pad “appears”.
  • You’ll also see on the screen my button controls for Mobile, so it works on my phone

Just finished up your game. It was fantastic. Like the fuel mechanic and the idea of collecting an object in order to spawn the exit. Keep up the good work!

Great job with the fuel mechanic.

Is the ship made from primitives?

The ball on level 5 got me!

That’s an awesome start, build more levels!

So painful…yet I played the levels over and over…I think you’re on to something.

Great Game, well done, i enjoyed playing it

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Notes:

  • The rocket i’m using was a free 3D asset pack I found in the Unity Asset Store.
  • I don’t know much about 3D Objects, but this one worked easily just dropping it in

I will try to do an updated level pass soon with all the new features integrated.

Alright everyone - I’ve uploaded the latest version of my game here:

Updates:

  • I played through and all levels can certainly be beaten.
  • Yellow and Blue powerups give different amounts of fuel
  • I added Green Objectives in level 8 and 9 that must be collected before landing pad spawns
  • I added some additional sound effects and particles.
  • Camera follows the player

great game, I like the camera follow part, now going to tinker with camera settings on mine so i can make larger maps

also nice touch with the green box to make landing pad appear, and see its mobile friendly with the on screen control buttons.

Hey Scott,

Very impressive work here. I was conscious of many of the UI features you put in. I particularly liked your fuel gauge. The original version with the static camera feels a little flat. I loved version 2 with the motion tracking. If anything, I would find some royalty free music you can add. Music just has a way of dialing things up. You have so many great elements here and mechanics. My congratulations on a project well done.

This was really cool! I’m still in the middle of the Termial Hacker game but I’m really looking forward to making this. Nice work!

Hi Scott, great job I really enjoyed it.

I like the fuel, and it was the right amount, i.e. I had to be careful with boost but was enough.
Level 8 was a challenge. One time I got the final green cube trigger but had zero boost left to get to the landing pad. :frowning:

Version 2 is really great with the follow camera and the fuel gauge at the top.

Only thing I would suggest is allow for A & D keys as in moments of stress my left hand was mashing Boost when I meant to rotate.

I’m going to add more levels to my effort as this was a lot of fun.

Hi Scott,
Loved your Game, Can you please tell me how you made the camera to follow the rocket without rotating? I am tired of searching on the internet.

Hey guys!

I’ve been busy with life these past couple months, but I’ve carved out some time and started messing around with some new hazard ideas for Rocket Boost.

Check out the following video for sandbox display of:

  • Super simple Missile projectile
  • “Air Vent” that pushes the player upward
  • The “wormhole” which will pull the player toward its center with a “gravity” force

Functionally they seem to work fairly well!

Thanks again for all the feedback - great to see such an active community.
