First of all, thanks Ben, team and the community for such an amazing course and learning environment.
Once I had the course version built, I thought It would be funny to transform it into a Trump reference, with the whole build a wall etc… and so, in this game you bounce a Mexican Sombrero to destroy the walls that he’s building.
It’s just light hearted humour, hope no one takes offence for it.
While I was waiting for some of the assets, illustrations and music, I continued studying and decided to bring lots of updates to the game to really nail down everything I’ve learned.
This game contains a lives system, different levels, moving bricks, hints, scoring system, victory gallery and even a fight against Trump, that it’s a bit like a Donkey Kong level thrown into the mix.
I’ve purchased a domain so you can all play it here: TRUMPANOID
Love the artwork - my son also really enjoyed the music
I noticed the first time I played that my sombrero slowed down a lot, I couldn’t make it go any higher than half way up the screen so I couldn’t get the last bricks.
Second game I noticed that sometimes the sombrero hits the edge bricks and will fly off on a random (feeling) direction. The speed of my sombrero on the second level was really fast also.
The moving block was a nice tough.
Looks good and plays well and comes with a theme, really good - well done
Yes, I’m still trying to find the right balance on the sombrero physics, I’m trying to avoid the ‘boring loop’ problem by adding a lot of random movement, but more often than not, it ends up doing some really silly stuff
I loved the pixelated confetti and brick breaking effects! I agree with Rob as well, the moving block was really cool too. Where did you learn about those? Really gave the game a professional feel!
The moving block is from Laser defender, and the particle effects are a mix of my After Effects background and a couple of tutorials I saw to get my head around the Unity UI
Currently on the Glitch Garden one, transforming it into something completely different as well, can’t wait to share it!
