Text101 - re-written with a few extra juicy bits

Hi peoples!

I want to show you my take on Text101. It’s still a prison escape but I had some fun with couple of sounds and making the writing a bit fresher. Enjoy (it’s still pretty short)!

Hi @profplum700,

I was intrigued by your take on Text101 as, I don’t think, anyone has considered adding sound effects to a version of it yet.

I’ve seen quite a few versions of this game now, but it was surprising how much more of a “game” it felt by this one change, the sound effects you have added really give the game some ambiance.

Two suggestions I might make;

  • The volume of the sound effects are quite loud, I’m guessing this may be just one audio clip on loop, but if you had several audio clips, you could then play some specific sound effects and different volume levels. For example, dripping sounds, rattling of bars perhaps a little more quietly, then a louder unlocking of a door with keys etc.

  • How about adding a couple of event specific sound effects. For example, the escape from your own cell, whether its via the pressing of buttons on the lock, or the door opening. The opening of the closets. Walking up the steps.

Suggestions only, but really nice addition to the course version - well done :slight_smile:

Hi @Rob, thanks so much for taking the time to visit and write me your thoughts! And glad you liked the added sound effects. It felt like adding them could provide the biggest bang for the buck considering it would always remain a somewhat simple project.

In my Number Wizard project, I realised you could adjust the volume levels for each sound clip. Good idea though. I’ll bear that in mind for the future.

I also totally agree with adding sounds for each event. I only added a clip for the event when you die and considered doing finding more for the other events as it made things a lot more interesting. However, I wanted to keep the momentum going and press on with the rest of the course :slight_smile:

Look forward to seeing you in future posts!
