Still a long way from the target

Here is what I have:

Thats very good. The only two things I would say is your scene looks darker then your reference photo and your rabbit has more exaggerated fur colors(the darker spots). Since your rabbit is in the same position as your reference photo, if you want you could uv unwrap your rabbit by using project from view and then use the colors from the reference photo to give your rabbits color fur. Another idea would be to make some of the hairs stick out a bit because too uniform of a fur can make even a really well done 3D model look unnatural.

You are very close though. Good job replicating the image. That’s very difficult!

So, do I use the original image as a texture and not use the hair particle system? I am a little confused.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll play around with that concept and see where I get.

I would keep the particle system and setup the material for your rabbit. The particle system by default will assign 1 color to each strand depending on where it’s uv unwrapped to. One extra thing you could do is duplicate your rabbit before testing to see if uv unwrapping it to your reference image works out properly. That way if it doesn’t work out for some reason you can go back to what you had and continue with that.
