Steampunk Tinkering Lab

I think that this will be an underwhelming project if I were to stick with doors and windows… so to challenge myself and stress myself out at the same time, I’m going to attempt to make a domed Steampunk Lab. That being said, I know that I could slave away at this project for months… so I’m going to give myself 5 weeks. Any more than 5 and I’m wasting my time where I could be learning elsewhere. Considering the course I’ve done so far took me about 1 month… I think a month and some change could do me some good!

Here are some objects that I’ll be attempting:

  1. Triangle Windows + Frame (I may just have to make the doom if constructing a dome with tris becomes too challenging)
  2. Misc. Tinker Parts (the idea is that these are small and easy and should get me used to cranking out simple models quickly)
    a) Hammer and Nails
    b) Srewdriver and Screws
    c) Springs
    d) Cogs
    e) Wires
    f) Sheet Metal (Aluminum, Copper, and Iron Textures)
    g) Nuts and Bolts
    h) Saw
    i) Wood Planks
    j) Clamps
    k) Tool Board or Tool Shelf (depends on timing really… tool board probably better for display)
  3. Fireplace/Hearth
  4. Workbenches
  5. Stool/Chair
  6. A Drill or Generic Tinkerbox (essentially this is our scientist’s current project)
  7. Storage Barrels and Boxes
  8. Way Larger than they need to be lightbulbs
  9. Trash Bin
  10. Recent & Crumpled up/thrown away schematics

So I understand that this level of detail is insane, which is why I gave myself a timeline.
Also, I started going ham and adding the scenery and location around this lab which just grew everything in scope - a watchtower, a telescope, mountains, a bridge over a crevasse… Scope creep is real wow oh wow

So I’ve given this project a little over a week now, and I’ve found that I’m doing nearly everything wrong after doing it.

Mainly my topology is garbage, and there’s been a lot of manual placement of objects (namely the pent-plates and hex-plates) which likely has a much quicker and easier process than the one I’ve slaved over. I’ve been learning through various Youtubens as I go, but I’m finding that I’ve lost the point of this entire lecture which was to build MODULAR game assets. Currently, I’m building a scene that likely would never be modular nor replicated thoroughly.

I am putting this project on hiatus. I will come back to it when my skill catches up to my ambition.

Oh and that weird dummy in the middle is Georgey. He’s meant to represent 1.9 meters which is my height.
