Skiping too many tools?

So curently I am at section of the course where I make chess set and I decided to get a little break and model something own… I went for a village with some Church, market, houses and city hall. But I decided to add some stuff that I dont know how to make yet. For instance grass or clouds so I watched a lot of tutorials on how to do it where they used tools that I am not familiar with yet. My question is, is it bad to watch those tutorials and learn those tools before completing this course? For instance when he was making grass he used wind to fully animate the grass. Am I not skiping too many things?

I used to do that before taking the course, try to make something and get stuck trying lots of random tutorials to achieve what I hoped for. However I got this course to run through things in a more orderly fashion. Yes at the start I could already make block models and more. But even then there were a few Oh! that’s something I had not used, known about. The chess set is very early in the course. Further on you will probably see bits you will never care about too, but just a basic idea of them can help. You may never care for low poly models, for games for example, but its part of the ‘language’. Blender is vast people often specialise in one area.

So from my personal viewpoint, I would suggest going through this course first, then you are better grounded in what extra you need and with the things underlying more ‘advanced’ areas. It will help you know what extra tutorials to look up, of courses to take.
