Showing but not teaching - Course questions

Few months ago, I finally started the Geometry Nodes mastery course that GameDev offers and from the introduction video I was under the impression the course would cover more than it did. Specifically, the fact that they stressed it was a tool that could be used to even draw things like fences into your scene, but we did not learn anything of the sort to be able to do that in the actual course.

Now we have the Simulation nodes course, and I just watched the introduction video and skimmed the chapters available. We’re being shown in the introduction the spiders running across the film, but there is no chapter or section covering anything that would teach us to make something like that. I am just assuming that the monkey transforming to the teapot is going to be put under the ‘text morph’ effect chapter. *Edit: * We don’t even learn the morph from the Suzanne head to the Teapot or the liquid material they used. ** Those spiders are a big part of your pitch though, and the fireworks are barely shown despite actually being a part of the course. -

  • Please correct me if I’m wrong regarding this though, and I will be doing the course over the next few days so hopefully I’ll get a better feel for it during that.

It just feels like maybe the pitches could make sure to cover exactly what we will be learning and making together in the courses so there’s no expectations that aren’t met. Does anyone else have any thoughts regarding this?

Working in it today, my conclusion is that it’s an incomplete course and it feels misleading to advertise it with the videos they have and sell it as it is. Hopefully the updated VFX course is better than this.

I was planning to follow the geometry nodes course as soon as I finish the characters’ one, so it is good to know - just to manage my own expectations.

The Simulation Nodes course is actually not complete yet; that section is coming, but I have no idea when because it’s still in production.

While I agree that sometimes a given topic isn’t covered to the degree of depth I expected (and that having properly-representative pitches is important in general), I do find that the marketed concepts are pretty much always in there somewhere, and fleshed out enough that I can confidently pursue any further research I want to without feeling lost. No idea what happened in this specific case; it might just be an oversight.

I’ve got to say working in this course today, if I paid the 95$ listed price I would demand a refund. The 12$ discounted price is fair, but for only learning the 5-to-1 text morph and the Fireworks simulations, this is a very disappointing couple of lessons.

Sorry to hear the course hasn’t been as good as you expected. Now that you’ve had a chance to explore it, I’ll make the team aware of your feedback. I feel it’s important that it gets seen.

Hi There. The course is in early access and I’m the process of going through the last of the fireworks section. There is another section which should cover the spiders so what you’re seeing isn’t fully complete there

Like I mentioned, the course is incomplete right now. There’s probably another 2-3 hours to be released but exactly how much and when I can’t say - It depends on how fast I can review the course materials when they become available but I imagine in the next month you’ll start seeing new lectures being added every few days so please be patient.

Your feedback has been shared with the team anyway and I appreciate your honesty.
