Ship stability effected by collisions

I have been having problems with my ship flying out of the camera range or drifting way out in front and basically being unreliable.

But I just discovered one of the reasons: there are obstacles in my circuit that my ship has been flying right through. It turns out these collisions effect the physics of the ship. So if I fly the ship to avoid these obstacles, then the ship (more or less) flies the way I want it to.

I know we haven’t gotten to collisions yet in the course, so wanted to post this in case anyone else is having these problems.

UPDATE: I now see that the player ship I have been using (downloaded from the Unity Assets Store) has had a Rigid Body component attached – which I think is why my ship was reacting to collisions. Once I removed the rigid body, then I can fly right through obstacles with no seeming problem. Thus the trials of not using the same assets as being using in the course when I am still a beginner at all of this
