Section-1 lesson 11 Primitive Castle + Render

Here’s my first attempt to the use of primitives.

I kinda got offroad when i accidentally discovered how to modify vertices and vertex in the layer window…

And because this is my very first 3D model i really wanted to render it, so i played around with the light and AO options, kinda happy with the result.

Thanks a lot for this lesson, i’m so happy i finally “modelled something” after years of talking about trying out 3D ^^

The instructor is great and everything is quite clear.

Only struggle i had was with the pan, rotate and zoom functions, for some reason i can only focus on an object, and i cannot just zoom where the mouse cursor is (i already modified the user preferences but it doesn’t seem to work)

Also things i learned by accident :

If you push shift before clicking on the 3D tool (move, rotate and scale) for example on the Z axis, it changes the scale on both the X and Y axis at the same time, i found it really useful when i wanted to scale the surface of a cube and keep it a square, without having to change it.

at the left of the 3D manipulator widget on the bottom bar, i found “pivot center” and this really cool option "individual origins, in order to turn multiple objects around their respective pivot.

That looks awesome. Keep that around while you continue on the course and then once you get the hang of texturing, I’d love to see the final outcome!

I did the little extra challenge and took it a little bit further, added a few trees, mountains and clouds.

And yeah i really hope to be able to texture it when i can ^^

Adding a sun light source seems to change the background color, i dunno why but i guess i’ll find out later ^^

The aqueduct that I built. If you press Tab, I accidentally discovered that you can switch to edit mode. From there, you can select the vertices of the cylinders and move them into the desired shape(the arch of the aqueduct).
After looking it up online, I discovered that you can drag textures onto selected planes in Blender, which is why you can see the aqueduct image I used as a rough reference.
It’s quite rough, but I can see how with Blender I can eventually make it look as good as the image, if not even better!
