Portfolio project advice

So me and two friends were making a point and click style game, inspired by Myst and other games. I’m in charge of the coding, one friend has done the concept art / story and another was going to do the 3D modelling, but has bailed from the project for unrelated reasons.

90% of the coding and functionality for the demo is done, but it’s all 3D primitives.

I want to use this project as a portfolio piece to show what I’m capable of from a programming stance, but if all the assets are barebones, I’m afraid it won’t be taken seriously. Should I find someone else to do the 3D modelling, do some basic 3D modelling myself, or is it something not worth worrying about?
