I was taught BODMAS at school, so the middle section needs to be worked out first, therefore:
9 - 3 / (1/3) + 1 =
9 - 9 + 1 =
0 + 1 = 1

The 3 / (1/3) is the tricky part here. I was taught a handy trick where if you’re dividing by 1/x you can multiply by x instead.

Another way you can figure this out is if you put both sides of the division sign with the same denominator:
3 = 9/3. I can’t demonstrate how that works in the way this website formats text though. :frowning:
