Playgrounds Demo

Last month I finished the Godot 2D complete course offered here on GameDev. In it we finish with a 2D platformer. I called mine the Playgrounds in the end because I expanded on it with 10 levels total, 2 additional unlockable game modes, enemies, weapons, and a couple smaller things.

I completed and shared it on Itch.io for playing the other day, you can try it out Here!

After exporting I ran into some issues that caused me some major disappointment after sharing it. I was able to fix them, but I had to use AI to pinpoint and resolve it, and it really frustrated me after feeling like it was working right for the last few weeks.

I am still really happy the Playground(s) was finished and is pretty well playable for 15-20 minutes potentially before just running out of things to do. It was a massive expansion from where we are left at the end of the Godot Course here, but after having taken the other courses, I felt confident enough to expand as far as I did.

Somethings I was particularly proud of was the different enemy slimes and their AI, and the grey floating-platform enemies chasing the carrot gun. The RPG gun was fun to make too.

Funny enough, I was so frustrated that I actually just dove headfirst into my next project and have made some awesome progress with it. I’m overall now feeling really excited again.
When I started learning Godot I wanted to recreate a couple of partially lost-media games from Facebook’s browser app days. I actually already have an awesome base starting to replicate the specific game I wanted to do. Feels great after pushing so hard the last few months to see multiple, playable games on my itch and be making progress towards the types of games I really want to play too.

Thanks for taking the time to join me on my journey, let me know if you tried out the Playground and how it felt to you.

Nice game, I played till the level where you first get carrot gun. I suggest you add more enemies which will help players cross the big gaps …
