If you decide to make special chess pieces, then make it more the center of the scene.
I mean close up! Foliage is not that important (for now).

Just an idea: it might look cool if the lighter squares had more a frosted glass type look. (Maybe higher roughness?)
Anyway, I like the piece and the way it fits with the environment colors.
