Went the hard route apparently. I made my pawn all one piece. Then watched the rest of the video after the challenge and saw how much EASIER it could have been lol. Now I know for next time. This is my pawn. Not sure if I like the shade smooth or shade flat more. Leaning towards shade flat.

Yes adding a sphere teaches you how to do the joining and makes the shape ready made, but as always in Blender there are other ways that work.
It does look like you are going to have high poly vertically and low poly going round your pawn.
