So, I’m working on my rabbit, and since I did a toy / stuffed animal design, I decided to rig it so I could pose it. I didn’t build the armature before combining the objects so that in itself was a little tricky. Fortunately, I did save vertex groups (those were quick) because I knew I wanted to rig it.
But when I tried to change the pose, things got really weird. Here’s a render of my rabbit:
Is it because each vertex is now assigned to multiple groups? Here’s what the grouping looks like:

The fur group is following the lecture where we created a vertex group and weight painted it.
And here is what the rigging and the particle system look like:

If I try to change the resting pose to legs down (a more T like layout) the bones stay down, but the legs return to the original formation, in this case aligning with the particle system and my rabbit looks like he’s sitting on stilts:

Any suggestions would be really helpful!
I don’t know if this has anything to do with the issue but I turned off the particle system when I created the rigging so that I could see the underlying model. I don’t know if that is useful information, but it might be.
Please help a bunny out!
EDIT 1
So I removed the particle system (I first created a fake user) and then re-added it to my model, and now it seems to be following the body when I move it! Yay! HOWEVER - when I attempt to apply a rest pose, it still does the stilt thing like the graphic above. … What did I do wrong?
