On the "Keep Original" Bug

In Michael’s lecture, he mentions that there is a “quirk” in Blender that if you press “Keep Original” after converting"Curve to Mesh", the original curve circle reappears and your mesh disappears. Michael explained a “work around”. However for me, using Blender 2.78, that quirk does not seem to exist. When I chose Curve to Mesh and checked “Keep Original”, I still had my lamp base mesh. Perhaps Blender fixed that issue? Has anyone had that issue with Blender 2.78+?
