Hi everybody. A big thank you to Ben and Michael, who made me discover Blender! With your help I was able to model this figurine and successfully upload it to Shapeways, a 3D printing online shop. I will hopefully receive my copy in the next days…
Dayum the model looks awesome, loving the toonish style.
This is just my opinion but 3D printer quality is always absolutely terrible, doesn’t do this model justice.
Thanks! To be honest I’m happy with the model quality, maybe it’s not clear from the picture but it’s not very big, I’d say details are similar to many commercial miniatures I’ve seen around. By the way, there were more detailed materials available from that site, they were just too expensive for me
I painted this myself with acrylics. Shapeways offers a colored finish (of course you have to send the textured model) but I think it’s a bit blurry, not as good as miniatures usually are
What preparations needs to be done to have it 3D printed? My gf and I are working on a licker model from Resident Evil together and I may surprise her by getting it 3D printed if it’s possible.
You can control your model in Blender (add-on Mesh : 3D Print Toolbox) or export to sculpteo.com (no obligation to buy the model) where you can see the parts breakables.
The model has to be manifold (no gaps or open meshes). Then I save it as STL file and I re-open it with microsoft 3d builder (it’s a software included in windows 10) that fixes all intersecting polygons. Then I upload the fixed STL in shapeways.com and it tells me if the model is strong enough, and calculates the prices for different materials.
