My terrain looks too shiny!

When I texturize a terrain without normal map, the whole surface looks very chrome-like. To me, this is ugly and distracting. It also looks very waxy in play mode.
Is there any way I can fis this? What am I doing wrong?

Kind regards, Bram

OK that took a whole two minutes to figure out… in case anyone else has this problem: in the settings I changes Material (under Base Terrain) from Built In Standard to Built In Specular. Biiiiig difference.

Hey guys, to further elaborate on this issue, Unity’s updated terrain engine has a major design flaw. It uses a files built in alpha channel (not to be confused with transparency) to determine the specular effect (shininess). Thats fine and all, but what isn’t fine is that if a file has no alpha channel, it defaults the alpha to pure white, aka FULL SHINE.

The proper fix is to open the texture itself in Photoshop (or whatever app you use), go to the channels tab, and make a new alpha channel. Paint it white where you want shine, leave it black where you don’t. Cheers!
