My 3D Journey so far

I was one of those that could not finish the Donut tutorial, that sweet pastry defeated me with a shortcuts I activated and didn’t know how to revert those actions. Donut was falling apart instead of melting so I just gave up - it was meaby 2-3 years ago. But Grant is just on another level, guy made me do 3 tutorials covering basics, and I am so happy for it.

I started few days ago 29-06-2026, Here are the works I made so far:

  1. My first work was The old man and monster from youtube tutorial series(https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn3ukorJv4vv9_e-htADGsPX9TMaQpHV8). That made for a 2 simple renders. Tutorial started great but towards the end it was a drag for me, maybe it was just a little too long for a first one, but I added a comic relief to the monster that helped me finish it. I just do not dare to post it here
  1. Then I moved to Gamedev.tv basics tutorial( Get Started With Blender - FREE Course | GameDev.tv ). This one even when repeating the same steps was not bad and everything was faster on my side. Also since there is a lot less to do in this tutorial it was a pleasure to finish.
  1. Just to quickly check myself I did a red bubble monster from other course( Blender Skill Builder: Modelling Challenges | GameDev.tv ) - I think it might have took me around 8-15mins. I did not watch Grant video did everything on my own and moved on to next course. I will most probably remake this with a timer when I am done with next courses.
  1. I started Blender Pathway course( Blender Pathway: Your Guided Learning Journey | GameDev.tv ) and that directed me to Lighthouse tutorial from Complete Blender Creator( Complete Blender Creator 3: Learn 3D Modelling for Beginners (Compatible with 4.3) | GameDev.tv ). Later I finished the expansion. From the beginning I really wanted to add a cliff, but only did it in the second part. In my opinion it fills the space nicely. Also only in the end I noticed that I did not move my camera! That makes for a really great before/after shot! Also added waves to water plane and made a fog above the water.

Great story!
And yes, most of us started with in an online tutorial. But mostly are those of the type: click here and click here …
GameDev courses are more educational I think.

Nice to see your progress!
Have fun
