Popular games like Pokemon Go, Draconius Go, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and Jurassic World Alive all share some similar features. I would love to see a course/project for making mobile location-based games.
Some functionality we see in these games:
- Map overlay
- Character that moves across map using device location
- Panning/zooming on map from touch input
- Minimal UI elements linked to screens (like inventory)
- Interaction with game objects on the map
I feel that a focus on important mobile concepts as well as common features from these games would be really beneficial to add to the Unity 2.0 course. We don’t have a lot to work with on building mobile games in Unity right now, so it would make the course more well-rounded. Although I can see how it would need to be a course of its own.
