Making Virtual Studio have priority over Monodevelop?

Hello ! First post…

My names Jack B, I am a student hoping to work my way into the development field, particularly in the form of VR/AR/MR development (like a lot of you I am sure).

I have been using Unity on my Mac in the past but have decided to switch to my PC and when I attempted to open up a new script, Unity by default took me to Monodevelop (which I am familiar with) but for the purposes of the course and preference I was hoping to use Virtual Studio.

Is there a simple way to go about switching which one Unity decides to open up??

Yes, there is, go to Edit > Preferences > External Tools, and choose the IDE that you prefer in the External Script Editor drop down menu.

I don’t remember it doing that when I installed mine, however I did already have Visual Studio installed on my laptop for other development work, so I may have had a different experience. I cannot recall being offer the choice of Editors either, but this sounds like something it would/should do so I’m sure @OboShape is correct. On the off chance it doesn’t however, or, if later on your want to change it yourself manually, you can do so via the Preferences within Unity from the External To…

…and also this one regarding line end issues;

Unity with Visual Studio 2015

The issue with doing this is that Unity creates line endings for mac and it keeps complaining about converting them. Heres the Fix. Go to \Unity\Editor\Data\Resources\ScriptTemplates (It will be wherever you installed unity) Open each cs file by right click open with and selecting visual studio. Click File -> Advanced Settings Change to Windows (CR LF) and click Ok Save the file and exit. Make sure to do this for all the cs files and you wont get any more line ending issues.
