Lighting doesn't get baked after selecting Lightmap Static

Hiya!
In my scene, after setting some objects to Lightmap Static, the baking did not start (indicated by no status being shown in the bottom right as it did in the lecture, and by the fact that my walls weren’t lit up).
I had to go into Window | Lighting, and click Build to make it happen. Even selecting the Auto (build) checkbox doesn’t make the baking happen when static is chosen for an object.
Am I missing something?
