I decided to go with the spot light and letting the bulb also be an emission light source but at a strength of 5. That way it looks like it is lit but doesn’t add too much noise. The scene still seems quite a bit dark to me even though I increased the size of the Area Lamps to 1.5 and there strength to 200. I also increased the world light some from being totally black to being a dark grey.
