It is very useful that you can do it in a lot of different ways. The easiest way to do it (as a lot of people have already mentioned) is to switch to the “info header”. Nevertheless it is getting more fun if you trying to make it more messy at first and then restore it without using “info header” straight-ahead_)
Hi. I have chosen this to be my work space and saved it as my startup file.
I have often been using the Dope Sheet when making my animation films.
It’s great to have the timeline and dope sheet on one screen and the 3D work space on the main one.
Here’s my result from the LayoutMess assignment 
I also got back to the Default screen by opening the Info Header Bar and clicking “Default.”
That was, thankfully, easier than I thought it’d be.
Done. =) Fiddled with expanding some windows to make it from scratch. Then I found the Info Editor Type and just picked Default.
I thought that I had proudly put my picture here lol.
First try was not to bad, only thing that got me was the top header bar. I did go thru alot of wrong pulls and stretches before this result but it was goof for me Lets just say I did not take the easy route.

This was my results, I simply went to the info tab entered," My Layout". So, it basically defaulted back to the main load up screen, I tried to do the harder route, I ended up confusing myself of what goes where ! Lol. I hope everyone solved this (:
Here’s how I got my challenge done:
Clicked on the properties button on the top left corner.
Scrolled down to ‘info’ and clicked on it.
Then clicked on the ‘Default layout’ in the info menu bar.
When I worked on the mess, I had no thought of the info button lol. I pulled and tweaked and messed it up more. Closed it opened it again, tweaked and pulled differently. I think I did it five times, figuring a little more out each time. Glad I did it the hard way
