Lay Out Mess Challenge Phenomenon

When I tried the Second solution (rebuilding the default layout) when I change the window to the 3D view I get a transparent cube instead of the solid cube. (I’m also working with Blender 2.60 version until I get a new graphics card)

What I tried:
I tried pressing (z) (nothing happens)
I try changing the cube to a solid by going to the viewport shading box located in the bottom header (nothing happens) I can’t select the cube

Solution:

  1. Shortcut key for Add Menu (shift and A)
  2. Make a mesh and change it to a cube (it works)

I’m wondering why I have to make a new mesh when visually I’m seeing a cube (as shown in the picture) Is it because I’m opening a different version file that I don’t have a workable face?

First select your cube object, then over in the right hand side in the properties, select the yellow cube (it says object if you hover over it). Then go down to the tab where it says display and make sure that the maximum draw type is set to textured. Here is a screenshot with arrows pointing at the two things to help you out.

Thank you. However, no luck. It seems like I have this phantom cube that I can’t perform any functions on.
