Laser Defender

Finally I completed my version of Laser Defender

You can play it from here

Features added in my version of Laser Defender:

  • 4 enemy formation which will appear randomly after you defeat the group of enemy ships.

  • Life system, which let’s you play the game until you are out of lifes.

  • Invincibility after you lost a life: When you lose, if you have an extra life, the ship will come back with 5 seconds of invincibility. Take this time for revenge against the enemy ships.

  • Shield text: There is a text that’s let you know how much energy/shield you have.

  • Gain extra life: If you defeat enough enemy ships you will gain an extra life.

  • Particle System when you hit or be hitted: When you hit the enemy ship or the enemy ship hits you there will be a very fast and small particle system that let you know if you hit or you get hitted by the enemy.

  • Added some animation to enemys, text and icon.

Let me know what do you think about my game :grinning:

You’ve made really good choices on the extra features.
I love how the different formations have different movement speeds fire rates and hitpoints, which gives variety to the gameplay.
The invincibility frames also adds to the fairness, so we don’t spawn inside lasers.

One thing I think could really improve the gameplay experience is any sort of mechanic that gives a sense of progression.
Maybe making the enemies shoot faster as the player clear the waves and add a wave counter?
So the bigger the wave is more difficult it is.
This way there would be a challenge to beat. Like trying reach greater waves.
Otherwise the player start getting more lives than losing and get tired at some point.

Thank you

The Invincibility is one feature that I spend (I think) 1 day.

A sense of progression it can be a change of the background. You can change the background when you destroy a certain number of waves.

Also think that the waves in my game are pretty simple except for the Red ships which have more energy and can do more damage. I wanted to add 6 waves but I wanted to stop with 4. I’m glab that after you destroy the enemy wave there will be a random wave to counter.

Actually I think the orange ships shoot faster, and the inverted “V” move slower. Don’t they?

Hi. I’m sorry if I answer to you now but anyway,

1)Yes the orange ships shoot faster than the grey ships.

  1. The inverted V you mean the other ship?

I played and enjoyed your game and I liked the idea of spawning different ships. I just noticed one thing that the lasers are spawning on top of their respective ships (Not sure if intended behaviour).

The enemy lasers will not hit the enemy ships because if they were hitted they lose energy and it makes the game easier.
