I struggled a bit trying to keep the lamp from going through the floor. I’m pretty sure there’s an easier way to do it.

I see posts like this and think *man, I must be doing this whole Udemy thing wrong" because I haven’t been modifying my models too much differently from what’s done in the lessons. Do you find that it helps to make the things you’ve learned easier to do or understand?

@erikwoods, it’s takes longer to do things your way but it’s definitely worth it. Experimenting surely gives you better understanding. Sometimes you might even discover stuff.
Two things that I discovered by mere serendipity:

  • Edge slide: in edit mode you can move a vertex along an edge by grabbing it and hitting g again (g > g)
  • Selecting overlapping objects: In object mode when you Alt+RMB to select, you get a menu of overlapping objects.

Pretty handy, don’t you think?

If you don’t have time though, it’s totally fine to follow the lectures as is. Tons of information in there.
