Clamp design lamp base, on the edge of the table 
Did not do this with the curves method.

How will this affect you, when you are going to animate the lamp?
@FedPete Will start animating in a couple of days 
the lamp will be fixed on the desk, but it will move to “look/explore” at objects on the table.
