King - strange issue with material

So I made my King, but when I applied a wood texture the flat face of the cross is a single colour.

Tried 3x different wood textures, also tried Flat, Box, Sphere, Tube settings and tweaked whatever other settings I could find.

Just an odd thing.

You probably have a face with the normal inside.

In EDIT mode, select all, Shift-n, to fix the normals.

And did you assign the texture to all faces?

Thanks Pete, normals seem ok and texture is there on all faces.
Looking closer it seems like this wood texture has vertical bands and the face just happns to be vertical so just gets the one colour.

I’m sure this sort of thing will be covered when we get to UVs.

Yes, good analytics!

Bitmap is displayed as a plain projection type. Quick fix could be to use cube or sphere projection. And yes, UV-mapping will be the best way and part of this Blender course.
