For me, I have more confidence when using menu commands up to the point I can learn the shortcuts. With menu commands, you are SURE what command you are using. However, shortcuts are a great timesaver.
Another poster mentioned that they would feel more comfortable learning the menu command first, then learning the shortcut. I feel the same way.
