Issue with Shrinkwrap and Multiresolution Modifiers Causing Artifacts in Blender

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a model (orc) in Blender and encountered some issues while using the Shrinkwrap modifier in conjunction with the Multiresolution modifier.

Here’s what I’ve done:

  1. I applied the Shrinkwrap modifier with the ‘Project’ setting and ticked the negative option.
  2. I then added a Multiresolution modifier and subdivided the mesh. (5x)

However, after subdividing, I’m seeing some odd glitches and distortions on the mesh, as shown in the attached screenshots. I’ve made sure that the normals are correctly set, but the problem still persists. (The good thing is that it only appears on the head.)

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions on how I can resolve this? I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance!

At a certain moment in your design process you have apply the multiresolution modifier.

Problem is occurring in the lower layers of the multires.
on, say resolution level 5, you add a new object, for this there is no data on lower levels.

Other problems can be bad mesh on those lower levels. Solving that, can influence mesh on the upper levels.
