I messed around a lot with the lighting until I was happy, then messed around even more. Not really sure what my overall outcome was meant to be! I used a Point light and the Sun. Through the Sun, I was able to modify the Atmosphere to give the different light bounce of the board to change it from just a normal black and white board.

Very nice effect. It brings a battlefield feel to the chess set… fog of war etc…
