Course Idea: High-end VR and Unreal Engine

I would love to see a course on VR and Unreal engine specifically targetting the high-end headsets like the HTC Vive – the course could incorporate multiplayer networking within the VR context as that’s where I believe the real power of VR is. For that purpose, maybe it could be a good extension / add-on to the First Person Shooter example section of the main Unreal course…

Here’s a list of some things I would love to see:

  • Up and running with Vive
  • Incorporating the hand controllers
  • Grabbing objects and throwing them (and/or shooting with them)
  • Multiplayer networking to see another player in the scene, avatar head and hand movements
  • 3D Directional sound effects
  • Voice over the network (preferably direction audio here too)
  • How authority over interactive objects work in VR with multiplayer
  • How to deal with textures that no longer look 3D in VR (previous environmental textures that looks great on a 2D screen now look flat as easily detected by your stereo vision in VR)
  • How to swap out the HTC Vive for the Oculus Rift and Touch and target both
  • Submitting to Steam

Thanks for the great courses so far!

I would like to see this

This is a fantastic idea.

I’d really like to see a section with a very simple game idea, like 3d pong, developed in Unity or Unreal and explicit instructions on exporting and publishing on all or most of the high-end VR/AR options: Oculus Rift, Gear VR, HTC Vive, PSVR, HoloLens, Magic Leap.

Emphasis on porting and publishing

It’s coming…
