I’m working from my MacBook Air.
In blender uses preferences under Compute Device, I had the option of “none” and “OpenCL”. With OpenCL says it works with my Intel HD Graphics 4000.
However when I try rendering in cycles render and with GPU (just the cube) it says: Loading render keels (may take a few minutes the first time)
However the render never starts, stays always at 0%.
Can I not render in GPU with my intel HD Graphics 4000?
Rendering the cube with the CPU takes me around 11s.
And the car picture around 40 min estimated time (didn’t have the time to wait till the end)
I was really exited about this animation part and now I feel a little demotivated since I will have to wait for so long for rendering the images or even videos.
Could someone give me some advice? will I be able to use GPU rendering at all?
Intel HD Graphics 4000 is an integrated graphics CPU… it isn’t actually a standalone GPU which is why you’re having the issue. I don’t know technically how the thing works, but I can tell you that a laptop is always going to underperform a machine with a dedicated graphics card.
I know rendering is really intensive… one of my friends just built a computer with 4 Titans in it because he is employed as an artist.
You don’t necessarily need that, but I would recommend investing in a desktop Mac (objectively overpriced), buying a PC and installing the graphics card, or really building a PC from the ground up (most rewarding and can be cheapest depending on your build).
If you continue to use your MacBook Air, you’re going to have to use Cycles Render when finalizing a project, because I doubt you’d want to take the time to render in a lean process like is Strongly Recommended in these lessons.
Thanks for your answer. Actually I have a desktop Mac, though its a little old. I wasn’t at home so I couldn’t use it before. Now that I’m back I tried rendering with it but exactly the same thing happens. My Mac is from Mid 2011, with a graphic card AMD Radeon HD 6770M. Which should be fine with openCL.
I even checked from the internet and it shows that my computer should have OpenCL (1.2) installed in it.
I really don’t know what to do anymore…
Any ideas why it doesn’t still work? Any suggestions?

How long were you allowing it to load the keels?
I’m on a PC but, when I was using an AMD card it took up to an hour to load the first time. By the end of the section, I found out it was a faulty card and the fan had died before the warranty was up. Maybe leave it running at night and see if it loads at all. If not I’d say get the card checked out to make sure it’s working properly.
