Hey guys, I’m James. I’m studying electronics and music technology at university, but I also have a fascination with video game development, 3d modelling and programming.
Blender (and 3d modelling in general) is very new to me, and I have never had the most “artistic” of eyes, but I’m hoping with a little hard work I will get something rather great out of this course.
This year I’m really focussing on giving myself transferable skills in the areas that interest me the most, as I am starting to look at career opportunities. I have always been a musician at heart, and would love to get into video game music and sound design, however I am choosing to first get to grips with the absolute basics of game development in all disciplines first.
By the end of this year I hope to have some kind of portfolio of music, artwork/models, and video game level prototypes and the GameDev.tv affiliated udemy courses are overall being a fantastic help, and I can’t wait to get into this one!

Sounds like you got a lot of goals, and any of them alone takes a good mind and full dedication. You’d better figure out which one gives you best perspectives and focus on it.

It’s quite ok, I can’t paint at all, yet managing good enough. 3D modelling is quite different kind of art. You’ll know best when you try, perhaps you will be just as fascinated as I am.
Well I’ve been producing music since 2011 and have a solid understanding of video game music and how it works. So that is just a matter of getting in the studio at uni and doing it (I don’t currently have a working DAW on my pc)
Through my uni course I have learnt a lot of the basics of programming and sweng (although mostly in java) and I have found that transferring these skills into C# and using Unity’s API has been fairly straight forward.
3d modelling is the newest thing to me by far, and something I don’t particularly mind being “bad” at, however a good understanding of how it works would likely be a valuable asset.
You’re right that all these areas take a lot of dedication, but grasping the basic concepts is fairly easy for me, given my background coming into them.
