I’ll be using a Google Cardboard. I’m an iOS user with a MacBook, so can’t really use anything else at this stage
Hey!! I’m Rick from Amsterdam. I bought the gear VR two months ago and I’m pretty excited about the course. My first main project, however is to create a simple interface in which users can scroll through a couple of videos I made with my gear 360 camera and open them. Is unity the right program to create an interface like this?
It would be perfect for this!
Cool course. I’ve got an HTC Vive, Gear VR and Cardboard (highly reco the new DodoCase portable cardboards even though they don’t a trigger button).
Likely going to do more work in cinematic/360 VR so will probably focus on Gear development. On a Macbook Air so desperately waiting for Apple to update their computing GPUs
I found a Cynoculars brand headset at Walmart for under $20. (USD) It is also available on their website Cynoculars.com for the same price. I wasn’t expecting much at that price, and I was pleasantly surprised.
A lot of the apps for the Google Cardboard recognize it fine, and it is a decent entry-level device. The controller is notably cheap and flimsy, and it seems many games do not recognize it, but I have been able to use Cardboard Camera and play a lot of the games that use positional controls just fine.
I still want something better, but for this course it should work, and for $20 how can you go wrong?
Joey
Have you tried the Touch controllers yet? Major game changer. The only thing missing now is the full room immersive experience, which we are told is next.
Do you mean the daydream controllers?
The new Oculus Touch hand controllers. I tested them out the other day, pretty incredible!
I was able to acquire an Oculus DK1. Will I be able to use this for the course, the course description mentioned the DK2.
It should be just fine.
I use a Gear VR with a Samsung Gear S7. That is my favorite platform at this time(because I love to be able to turn 360) until I get to try the Oculus Touch and then maybe not even then. I’m hoping to get some practice coding, and get some refresher on Unity, both of which I haven’t done in a while. And of course I want to learn to program 3D/VR.
( I have the Cardboard switcher app on Gear VR and I don’t think that has been mentioned in the videos)
I have a cardboard and gear vr headset to use with a Samsung Note 5. I also have a Oculus Rift and am waiting for the release of the touch controllers. Once I have those, I am going to set up room scale VR. If I ever get the money I will buy a Vive and Daydream VR phone. I am also curious about the Microsoft based VR headsets that have been announced.
Hello everyone. I am Fouad. I am excited to join this discussion form. I am interested in VR and planning to start some projects. I got HCT Vive and Samsung VR and I will play around with them.
Hey,
I found the Gear VR below the Christmas Tree and was very lucky to get a few days later
a gift certificate for this course Now I really look forward to hone my skills…
Hi everyone, I’m a UX / Graphic Designer jumping into VR with the HTC Vive. I’ve also got a Merge 360 headset which is like a foam version of the Google cardboard without the trigger. I don’t think it will be useful in section 4.
My game dev goals are less about creating great games and more about creating great User Interfaces, menus, graphics etc. for the virtual space and conducting usability tests with other people.
I’m looking forward to chatting with anyone who’s already dealt with creating UI or menus for VR games.
I’ll be using Google Cardboard to start with. I’m really excited to learn! I also think it’s got the best compatibility for non-gaming purposes.
I’m curious to see what Google Cardboard like because I’ve seen what the Samsung gear VR is like in terms of resolution.
My game development goals are to
- show a proof of concept that VR can be accessible.
- create a learning application that demonstrates the 12 principles of modern learning.
- share a completed project under a Creative Commons license for Open Educational Resource (OER) use.
- tell a captivating story that is really immersive!
Although I own a Samsung Galaxy S8 and Gear VR, I am deciding to go with Google Cardboard due to the sharing / open source features of the gSuite.
