Had problems with this Rook

I tried a few times using the chess set base blend file. Every time that I made it, the top area above the base was not completely circular. I am not sure that my base may not be exactly circular in shape. I must have messed it up at some point. I took the bishop as Mike showed in this lecture and the Rook was correctly shaped. Anyway, the rook was not overly challenging after I worked from a properly designed base.

Here is the rook that I came up with. It is much the same as Mike’s even though I did not do exactly the same steps as the lecture to get there.

Do you have some pictures of the rook in edit mode, so we can see the topology?

This one look like you miss to select the back part of it when do scale it down or may be from another angle we can see better

cheers!

Here is the one that I made from the base. The base actually looked completely circular as viewed from the top before I started, but it seems like it is a little elongated on the Y axis when I finished the Rook. This is a view showing the top and side view in edit mode. The side view looks like it is correct but the top view looks a bit more oval. BTW today’s Blender 2.8 build does not have Remove Doubles or at least I couldn’t find it in any menu even after doing a search using F3.

you can fix it moving the vertex on the Y axis a tiny bit on both sides.
For remove doubles you have to do the search when you are in Edit mode.

You go do that and let us know how it goes for you

I did a search for remove doubles in edit mode. I also checked the menus in edit mode and could not manually find the remove doubles command. It does not seem to be in today’s build (May 3, 2019).

Here are two pictures that show that “Remove Doubles” is not available in the latest build. Maybe tomorrow’s build will have it back.

One is the Vertex Menu and the other is F3 search for remove doubles.

Weird, I have the option

Just checked today’s build and “remove doubles” is not in this build as well. The last time that remove doubles was available was on May 2, 2019. Here is a picture of it:

So, I think it would be best to use the May 2 build of Blender until it is re-instated into Blender.

here’s why

Thanks, I read the comments at blender.stackexchange and found them helpful.

Thanks for finding that Pablo

[/quote] indeed…

Maybe there is a way to create an alias for “Merge by Distance” to be “Remove Doubles” again … Will try to look
